Introduction To Values

RSS

What a foundation you stand on now: the apostles and the prophets; and the cornerstone of the building is Jesus Christ himself! We who believe are carefully joined together with Christ as parts of a beautiful, constantly growing temple for God. And you also are joined with him and with each other by the Spirit and are part of this dwelling place of God. Eph 2:20-22

Life is built line upon line, decision upon decision. That's why the foundations you begin with are so important. Any person who wants to live a successful life must live from a place of conviction and stability. When your life is set on solid foundations of belief in God and trust in His Word, your outlook is clearer and your direction established.

Just as the man who built his house upon the sand lost everything when storms came, if you build your life on anything apart from God, your reference point toward the future is unstable - eventually things begin to unravel. A wise person has firm foundation. They are the one to whom others look for guidance and direction.

Just as  individuals we want our lives to be built on firm foundations so do we as a church. Our foundation, our values are far more important than any building foundations we might see being dug in the next few years for the new build. These are the values that we seek to live out with Jesus as our cornerstone, the first stone set in the construction of a masonry foundation, important since all other stones will be set in reference to this stone, thus determining the position of the entire structure.

These will determine the shape of the church for many years to come. They need to be lined up with our purpose statement because the only way forward together is to live out our values in such a way as they line up with God’s purpose for us as a church. Line these up as a church and God’s Spirit will blow through it.

So as a church, let us love our vision and hold loosely to our methods rather than loving the methods and holding loosely to the vision. To do that let us consider the values, our foundations contained in this booklet as the principles by which we all seek to inhabit and live out. It is our F-plan for a grace filled, growing, God-focused church living out God’s purpose for us as a church.
