Fired Up

Fired Up

We recognise our need to be continuously filled with the Holy Spirit. We want to be those who are learning to operate in the supernatural gifts of the Spirit to minister to others in love and power as Jesus did.

We often struggle with the mystery of God? It’s hard to understand Jesus but what about the Holy Spirit?

The Holy Spirit has been around since the creation of the world.

‘In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.’ Genesis 1:1-2

Out of the chaos, the Holy Spirit brings the cosmos; out of disorder he brings order; out of confusion, harmony; out of deformity he brings beauty; out of the old he brings the new.

And when someone decides to become a Christian, the Holy Spirit comes to live within them, to breathe in them the breath of life. And we read throughout the Old Testament how the Spirit of God rested upon particular people at particular times for particular tasks.

At the end of Luke’s gospel we read that Jesus said this:

‘I’m going to send you what my Father has promised but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.’

In Acts 1:8 we read that Jesus said to his disciples: ‘You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.’

Now the Holy Spirit is for all those who believe and He is a deposit into our lives forever. We receive the Spirit when we come to Christ but we need to be continuously filled and receive the gifts of the Spirit.

The Holy Spirit enables us to connect with our Heavenly Father and for that relationship to develop in strength. The Spirit empowers us to become more like Jesus by developing the fruit of the Spirit and unite us together as part of God’s family. His Spirit brings gifts for all His children which are freely given to those who ask. Using these gifts means we’re in it together and as a church the Holy Spirit makes the family of God grow. We are bold about sharing our faith because we together are fired up by the Holy Spirit to live as a witness to the amazing life offered in Jesus Christ.
